The Government's Last Card: The Horror of War as an Electoral Tactic

In this interview, the current crisis phase of Armenian-Russian relations is analyzed in detail, characterizing it as a "watershed moment." According to the speaker, Russia is no longer limiting itself to closed negotiations with the authorities and has begun communicating with the Armenian people in open text, presenting the economic and security price that Armenia will be forced to pay in the event of a change in its foreign policy vector. It is emphasized that Moscow effectively accuses Yerevan of deviating from previously reached trilateral agreements and involving Western forces in the region, which exacerbates the situation in both energy and logistics matters.

Simultaneously addressing internal political events, the speaker harshly criticizes the government's style of operation, especially the incident that occurred on a church holiday and the detention of a school student. He considers this an attempt to spread an atmosphere of fear and a prelude to a "Moldovan scenario" before elections, where the ruling power will attempt to remove forces representing a real alternative from the field. It is observed that the government is using the war fear factor as its primary tool for re-election, as it can no longer present convincing arguments to the public in the socio-economic sphere.

Finally, it is concluded that Armenia has found itself in a complex knot where external pressures are intertwined with internal legitimacy issues. The government will try to maintain its positions at any cost, using both anti-Russian propaganda and pressure from law enforcement structures. The speaker also expresses skepticism regarding the tactics of certain forces in the opposition field, noting that only through a united and competently calculated political struggle is it possible to change the current dangerous situation, where the foundations of statehood are being put under serious trial.
