The Pashinyan-Putin meeting: Between the EU and the EAEU - a wise lamb sucks seven mothers

In recent years, the Armenian government has been trying to simultaneously maintain existing relations and seek new "alternatives" across various foreign policy directions. But how possible is it to remain in the EAEU, benefit from economic ties with Russia, and at the same time declare a move toward the European Union?

In this video, I address the Nikol Pashinyan-Vladimir Putin meeting in Bishkek, the adopted law on initiating the EU membership process, the possibility of withdrawing from the EAEU, and the topic of a referendum. I also discuss the contradiction when the Armenian government declares a European orientation while simultaneously trying to preserve the economic and political opportunities operating within the framework of the EAEU.

The position of Russia is also addressed, according to which the EU and EAEU directions are long-term incompatible, and Armenia must make a clear choice. I discuss what that choice could mean for Armenia's economy, exports, energy system, and Armenian-Russian relations.

At the same time, I analyze the government's foreign policy steps over recent years and the danger that yet another miscalculated decision could bring Armenia to a situation where existing economic and strategic opportunities are lost, while real guarantees for a new direction remain nonexistent.
