Our authorities, along with the political and public figures serving them, present the declaration signed in Washington as a trilateral document implying trilateral commitments.
Naturally, we are being deceived once again.
In reality, the declaration signed in Washington is bilateral and was concluded between the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, and the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, while the President of the United States, Donald Trump, signed it as a witness to the process — not as a party, not as a guarantor, but as a witness.
To prove my point, I refer to the official English version of the document, where next to the name of the U.S. President the phrase “Witnessed by:” is indicated. In the Armenian-language version, published on the same page of the RA Government website, this note is absent — for obvious reasons.
First, let us not deceive our people — let us state the reality as it is. I am also convinced that if we had a capable negotiator, we would have concluded a bilateral declaration with the United States and would not have made Azerbaijan a shareholder in the corridor.
Such a bilateral declaration with the U.S. will be possible, but only after a change of power.
